In a world full of denim brands, why denim?
We wanted to do fashion that feels personal. Fashion that will signal confidence but also effortlessly chic and what does it better then jeans. They can be classy and sexy at the same time. You can wear them in every aspect of your life. Every woman likes jeans but doesn’t necessary want to be perceived as a young rebel.
No44 was launched as a resource for classic essentials. Born out of love and the desire to make women feel vibrant, modern, and beautiful wearing the most timeless fashion item: jeans.
We like that it takes time and effort to make our jeans, that you don’t have to buy many, and that when you find a good one, they become your safe space. You can wear them for years. Denim is timeless and while fashion and marketing trends come and go, that authentic pair of jeans will always be there.
What is No44's favorite denim-related era through its history?
Jeans are a wardrobe staple, for most of us and they are hanging out in prime position in our closet, always ready to wear for whatever occasion. If we look at trends throughout the year, we notice that nothing really changed. For almost 150 years we know and love the same styles.
But to answer your question, we love the classics. Even though jeans have seen a great evolution in styles over the years, the 90' are a huge reference for today’s collections. The original 501 silhouette remains a popular style.
We are always searching for elements that transcend time, with timeless authenticity. Therefore, our styles are designed for every aspect of a woman's life, for every generation.
Let's talk about Rethinking Denim and why No44 finds it necessary to rethink denim?
A: A single pair of jeans uses up to 3.500 liters of water in its production lifecycle. But that’s not all; climate, waste reduction, chemicals, water use, and biodiversity, are other aspects to be considered when creating and designing jeans.
Our first commitment is to deliver slow fashion, with no seasonable styles. To protect the environment by creating long-lasting products which you can definitely wear for years.
Consumers today become more concerned with the social and environmental issues linked to their purchases and especially denim. We have implemented Rethinking Denim initiative to ensure that existing resources are kept in use for as long as possible and recycled once they have fulfilled their purpose.
Why should we buy a pair of jeans made though Rethinking Denim and not any other?
Let's be honest; we don't need a new denim collection every single season. Daily, full trucks of clothing are taken to landfill or burned and because of that, we make our jeans differently. We want to create denim that can stay in use for as long as possible.
Rethinking Denim is about circularity and doing something good for the planet.
For those who are not familiar with the term, circularity means that the products otherwise destined for landfills are recycled and not thrown away thus can be reused again.
Worn-out jeans that are destined for the landfill are collected and redirected to ISKO™, an innovator in denim recycling. They are shredded and broken down until they’re reduced to fibers. Using ISKO R-TWO™ program, new No44 jeans are made from a blend of post-consumer and post-industrial waste.
When you recycle your old jeans through our Rethinking Denim initiative, you’re giving your old jeans a second life.
By getting involved in Rethinking Denim, you will be not only a part of the change, but you will lead the change.
How sustainable is No44 and how does the brand make a difference?
Every piece of fabric we use for our jeans pushes the boundary of sustainable innovation and with Rethinking Denim, we want consumers can get involved. In a time where consumers are more mindful of their purchases, supply chain transparency is of utmost importance.
Our production is 100% vertical, and we have control over the entire supply chain. Every step from yarn to garment is supervised. Our fabrics are exclusively from ISKO™ - one of the leaders in the denim creative industry.
The manufacturing and washing is made in the sisco of ISKO™ - Creative Room, a fully integrated garment provider. Utilizing ISKO’s Scoring System, the Creative Room is able reach our demanding standards in sustainability, quality, technical capacity, processes, and other qualifications.
